The Work Programme

The Work Programme is a government initiative which represents a step change for Welfare to Work in this country, creating a structure that treats people as individuals and allows greater freedom to tailor the right support to the individual needs of each customer.

Who is it for?

The Work Programme will replace many of the existing welfare to work programmes and is predicted to work with around 2.5 million people across the U.K.

The programme is designed for individuals in receipt of:

  • Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) customers
  • Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) customers

The WP will continue to provide support to relevant customers when Universal credit is introduced.

You can also volunteer to join the Work Programme if you are a Jobseeker Allowance customer and feel you face significant disadvantage (e.g. young people with significant barriers, NEETs, ex offenders).

What does it cover?

The Work Programme will provide a range of creative and innovative interventions that are responsive of the needs of you, the individual. Customers will agree the most appropriate actions for their personal situation with their Work Coach, all of which will be recorded in their Action Plan. In simple terms, the Work Programme can help you prepare for, find and stay in work.
